The car seems to have lost control at a fairly high rate of speed before impacting the tree and completely wrapping itself around it. This is quite an old car and with a big heavy engine up front it might make it 'easier' to have 'folded' like this. No details on the driver as yet but I am sure some extremely serious injuries (if not fatal) would have been the case.

Victim was on the way home from a late night karting session when he lost control and overturned.

His brother, who was riding ahead in another car driven by a friend saw it all happen.

“I was in another car with my driving instructor — who was also my brother's university friend — with my brother just behind us. Suddenly we saw him overtake us and hit the curb of a sharp bend. The impact was such that the car flipped a couple of times before coming to a rest a fair distance away. It all happened in a flash in front of our eyes,” he recalled.

“We rushed to the car which was now on fire. I could only see his leg dangling out because the smoke and fire were so intense. People rushed out to help and tried to douse the blaze with fire extinguishers. The fire did die for a moment, before everything went up in flames. However, we had enough time to pull him out of the car,”

The driver later died.
